New Master's Program in Mechanical Engineering

The University Board at OsloMet decided on September 20th to establish a new master's program in mechanical engineering.

"I am pleased that OsloMet will be able to offer a master's education in mechanical engineering starting next autumn, providing expertise that we know is in high demand in the job market," says the Vice Rector for Education, Silje Fekjær.

The new master's program will be established within the Faculty of Technology, Art, and Design starting in the autumn of 2024, with plans to admit 30 students. The program will be conducted in English and will lead to the degree of Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Graduates from this program will acquire the expertise necessary to develop the technology required to address societal challenges and the need for sustainable development in the future, both in Norway and globally.

Mechanical engineering is the study of machines or physical systems that may involve power, motion, and/or energy transfer. As a branch of engineering, it combines principles of engineering physics and mathematics to address core areas such as mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, design, structural analysis, and electricity.

Concentrated Academic Community

The academic community within the master's program in mechanical engineering at OsloMet will consist of eight individuals, collectively contributing 4.9 full-time equivalents to the program. Among these, 4.4 full-time equivalents will be held by individuals with first-tier expertise, and 1 full-time equivalent will be held by a professor.

"Providing a few experts with the opportunity to invest heavily in the program instead of spreading it across many individuals fosters coherence and collaboration in education, which I believe in," says Vice Rector for Education, Silje Fekjær.
