The winners of the Association of the Year 2022 and acting vice-chancellor for education during the award ceremony

Student association of the Year 2022

Kardiá OsloMet, the student association for nursing education, was named Association of the Year 2022 on Association Day on August 19th.

– It is really fun! We have recently resumed activity after the pandemic, and now we have a freer framework to do things that our members want to do, says Sivert Neergård Rendal, who is the leader of Kardiá OsloMet.

The price comes in handy, according to Neergård Rendal. During the pandemic, there was a great lack of academic and social meeting places at the Faculty of Health Sciences. With the cash prize of NOK 20,000, Kardiá OsloMet has a good opportunity to cover these needs, which is also the association's main goal. And the association is already well underway with planning. First up is an exam lecture in anatomy for the first year students on the nursing course. It will be organized this winter, streamed online and thus be available to all nursing students who will take the national exam in anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.

– It is very exciting. We hope to fill the large auditorium at Pilestredet 32, says Neergård Rendal.

Important for belonging and learning

The award was presented by acting vice-rector for education Silje Bringsrud Fekjær and SiO's chairman Stine Johannessen. According to Bringsrud Fekjær, the student unions are not only important for the social environment at the university, but also for creating a good environment for learning.

- The work done by associations such as Kardiá OsloMet contributes to belonging and a good learning environment for students in nursing and other health subjects at OsloMet, says Bringsrud Fekjær.

The jury on the prize winner

The jury has consisted of student life coordinator at OsloMet Beate Thandiwe Dessingthon, cultural board leader Barathy Pirabahar and welfare and diversity officer Mikkel Frydenlund Sibe. This is what they say about the award winner:

"The association distinguishes itself as a professional and social association that has revitalized its board in the midst of a pandemic and planned activities throughout.

Although restrictions have meant that the plans have not been implemented as planned, the association has nevertheless turned around, changed days and times and managed to carry out the activities anyway, or plans to do so this autumn.

The jury believes that this shows that the association has good cooperation, the ability to be flexible and the persistence that is important in volunteering. In addition, the association seems to have a particular drive to reach out to a wide range of healthcare students, and the jury thinks this is important and good."
