More information about the four different standard agreements

The university has four different templates for standard agreements that you can use and adapt to your own situation. Below is more detailed information about each standard agreement.

Standard agreement for implementation of academic work

The agreement template is intended for use in cases where a student paper is affiliated to an ongoing research project at OsloMet with/without collaboration with other enterprises/institutions.

The student is given the opportunity to 'borrow' parts of a larger ongoing research project in order to develop something and make a small contribution to this project.

The affiliation with an ongoing research project at OsloMet, and any collaboration with external enterprises/institutions, means that there is a need to regulate rights in relation to the data collection, the project's results and the paper itself with appendices. The standard agreement (.docx) for student papers is intended to address this need.

If you decide to use the agreement template, and the paper's specifications and results are to be utilised for financial gain by the enterprise/institution, a special agreement must be entered into with all parties. OsloMet's (former HiOA's) supplementary agreement on financial exploitation (.docx) can then be used.

Standard agreement with no transfer of ownership

The agreement templates are intended for use in cases where students are conducting a student project/practical training placement in collaboration with the private or public sector.

In such cases, the student is normally on placement in an enterprise/institution. It may be an enterprise that the university already has a collaboration with, or the student may have approached a business him/herself and gained this partner.

In collaboration projects with large companies, where the students are attractive and where they will not be working on an existing project, the agreement template without transfer or ownership (.docx) (the company will only have right of use) should be used. This agreement template should also be used in other cases. The question is what requirements are made by the enterprise and what possibility the student has of finding another training placement/carrying out the student assignment somewhere else. See also transfer of ownership (.docx).

There is a separate section in the agreement on commercialisation. If the enterprise/institution wishes to exploit the work commercially, a separate agreement on this must be entered into between the enterprise/institution and student. This section also regulates the student's right to reasonable remuneration if the value of the use of the results is considerable, i.e. if it exceeds NOK 100,000.

Deciding to take on an assignment that entails a collaboration with an enterprise/institution provides students with an opportunity to come into contact with the labour market and gain experience and knowledge from business and industry that the student otherwise would not have had. In many instances, the enterprise will be able to have a task carried out that it otherwise would not have the competence to do. For OsloMet, the collaboration gives added value in the form of closer contact between the university and business and industry/other enterprises.

Standard agreement with transfer of ownership

The agreement templates are intended for use in cases where students are conducting a student project/practical training placement in collaboration with the private or public sector.

In such cases, the student is normally on placement in an enterprise/institution. It may be an enterprise that the university already has a collaboration with, or the student may have approached a business him/herself and gained this partner.

The company demands that the student transfers the right of ownership (to the project's results and specifications, or, if applicable, the student's contribution to an ongoing project) to the enterprise in exchange for the student being allowed to have a practical training placement or conduct his/her student project there. The student should then consider whether he/she is so attractive that they should instead try to establish a collaboration with another enterprise/institution that does not set this requirement. In reality, it may be that the student does not have many options and looks at the placement and collaboration with the enterprise; i.e. the work process, as being more important than ownership of the results. The student may also recognise the value of being given the opportunity to 'borrow' parts of a larger ongoing research project in order to develop something and make a small contribution to this project. The agreement template with the transfer of ownership (.docx) can then be used. See also agreement template without transfer of ownership (.docx).

Simple collaboration agreement template

A simple collaboration agreement template can be used in instances where the student is going to be on placement in an institution/enterprise to gain work/practical experience and/or work on a student assignment.

The student will be part of an existing project in the enterprise/institution, and the objective of the placement is to gain work/practical experience, and the knowledge the student gains in relation to the work process itself. The results of the students' contribution is less important for the student.

Pursuant to this simple collaboration agreement template (.docx), the enterprise/institution acquires right of ownership, while the student keeps the moral rights to his/her own contribution: i.e. the right to be named as the author and the right of respect, and the student shall have the right to publish.
